ABOUT THE COMPANY

Dolphin Shipping Services Limited (DSSL) started operations in July 1990 as a tramp shipping agency that specialized in providing agency services to reefer vessels.  It soon grew to be the market leader in this sector, handling as much as 90% of all reefer vessels calling at the port of Tema.  Due to increasing competition and the changing nature of shipping with more emphasis being laid on containerization, the company’s dominant position in the Reefer Sector has declined in the past couple of years.

DSSL has however diversified its services into other sectors of shipping and thus handles tankers, general cargo vessels as well seismic research vessels that operate off the West African waters and Ghanaians waters in particular.

DSSL prides itself as being exclusive agents of PHYLIS INTERNATIONAL of Houston, Texas, USA, SHANGHAI OFFSHORE PETROLEUM EXPLORATION AND DEVELOPMENT CORP of Shanghai, China & CHINA NATINAL OIL COMPANY LIMITED whose collective seismic survey and exploratory works led to the discovery of oil and gas in commercial quantities in Ghana.

It has therefore been undertaking comprehensive shipping agency work in the Ghanaian ports of Tema and Takoradi. Its services range from holding normal agency for ship-owners/charterers, clearing and forwarding, and limited brokerage. DSSL is also known for efficient supervision of vessels, discharging and loading operations, and organization of stevedoring for all kinds of cargoes. DSSL further has particular experience in handling refrigerated cargoes such as fish, meat, poultry and pineapples and thus acts as shipping agents for local tuna vessels as well.

We are masters and experts in organizing ship-to-ship transhipment of bulk frozen tuna from fishing vessels to reefer carriers either at port anchorage or in port.

Bunkering at high seas is in addition one of the company's specialties.

DSSL plans to extend its services to the nascent Oil and Gas (O&G) industry in Ghana which is expected to create many commercial opportunities in the areas of space requirements, services, qualified manpower and supplies of goods.

OUR OBJECTIVES

The overall objective of DSSL is to establish and nurture a sustainable and economically viable indigenous shipping agency that shall not only withstand competition from traditional expatriate shipping agencies but also grow in strength from generation to generation and directly offer employment to a good number of Ghanaians. The company therefore has the following objectives:

  • Lay a strong congenial foundation for the establishment and growth of a home-grown shipping and freight forwarding agency that will be recognized in the West Africa Sub-region and internationally;
  • Provide internationally competitive, effective, efficient and reliable services in the seaports of Tema and Takoradi;
  • Build capacity of employees by exposing them to relevant refresher courses, seminars, workshops and also enrol zealous ones for correspondence courses from recognized maritime institutions in both Ghana and abroad;
  • Stimulate and encourage empowerment, creativity and innovation by delegating duties from time to time to subordinates;
  • Improve the economic welfare of its employees;
  • Satisfy the transportation needs of the nascent O&G industry in Ghana by adding to the company’s main line of business other business activities in demand;
  • Forge strong bond of friendship and working relationship with clients; and
